Time to Dream Wall Art

I've been itching to do some Wall Art Canvases for a while now and this week finally sat down and did it.  This one is done with an 8.5x11 stretched Canvas. I will be giving this to my best friend, it's to remind her to take time to dream. She loves anything Tim Holtz and is crazy about Steampunk, her favorite colors are blues and browns.  I adhered a piece of gear paper from the DCWV Tattered Time paper stack and then recolored it with Faded Denim Distress Stain. I used Tim Holtz Symphony Tissue Tape all around the edges then covered it with Ranger Glue n Seal. I placed a paper doily behind the Tim Holtz Tattered Clock Die cut and inked it with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. The Tattered Clock die cut is cut from chipboard, inked up with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink then spritzed with Perfect Pearls  Mist in Perfect Copper. I then added a large circle of Tim Holtz Composer Tissue Paper over the center of the doily. I glued the Clock die cut down onto the Doily/Tissue Circle with Glossy Accents then added a gear from the Tim Holtz Mini Gears Movers and Shapers Die, and added the Tim Holtz Game Spinners with a brad to serve as the clock hands. I cut the dress form with the Tim Holtz Sewing Room Die using chipboard. I painted it black with Studio Black Gesso then applied a thick coating of Clear Rock Candy Crackle Paint. Once the crackle paint was dry I coated it with Ranger's Pearl Paint Dabber. I cut some white Tulle to make the faux skirt and added a bow. I used a piece of Grungeboard to cut the wings using the Tim Holtz Heart Wings Bigz Die then painted with Copper Perfect Pearls Powder. I cut the number "2" with a piece of Tim Holtz Lost and Found Paper Stash using his Mini Reindeer and 25 Mover and Shaper Die . The "2" was inked up then adhered to a half fan made with Tim Holtz Composer Tissue Paper. The word "time" was cut using the Tim Holtz Once Upon a Time Decorative Strip Die and adhered to the Banner which was cut with the Tim Holtz Tattered Banners Die.The chipboard word "dream" came from a dollar bin at Michaels and has been sitting in my cabinet for a year waiting to be used. I inked it all up using Distress Ink colors Gathered Twigs, Rusty Hinge, Pine Needles, Walnut. I slipped a piece of Tim Holtz Film Strip Ribbon in there because she likes to dabble in photography.
I had so much fun making this and now think I'll take a stab at making one for myself :-)

I am entering this into the SimonsaysStamp Challenge Blog  Anything Goes Challenge and the Studio L3:Grungy Monday "Get out the Tissues" Challenge

Day12- 12 Days of Christmas Tags with Tim Holtz!

I do believe this is my favorite of all of my Tags. It's simple but I think it's very pretty.  I was going to put the word "snow" but I'm wishing for snow so put "wish" .  I don't have Tim's Tissue Paper (yet) so I made my own with plain white tissue paper, Tim's music sheet stamp and adhered it to my Tag with Ranger's Glue and Seal. I had already applied Distress Ink to the tag in Iced Spruce (oh how I love that color!).  I cut the ornament using Tim's Die along with his mini snowflake mover and shaper. I used Ranger Silver Embossing Powder on the ornament and on the Snowflake. I put a piece of Tim's music note paper from his Seasonal Paper Stash behind the ornie and filled the snowflake opening with Ranger's Glossy Accents. I don't have Platinum or Silver Stickles so dotted Glossy Accents around the edge of the tag then sprinkled Martha Stewart's Sterling Silver glitter on it.I'm sad that 12 Days of Tags is over but glad that Tim and Mario "might" get a bit of rest now. They do so much for us Crafters...those Fellas are pretty special!

Day11-12 Tags of Christmas with Tim Holtz!

I really struggled with this one.  I poured a brand new jar of UTEE into my hot melting pot and didn't notice until it was 3/4 melted that there were some kind of red pellets in there ackkkkkkkkk!  I burned my fingers trying to pull the larger pieces out, dang tweezers wouldn't grab them.  I used Ranger's UTEE, Distress Inks, Tim's Seasonal paper Stash, Tim's Ornament Die #2, Tim's Tattered Banner Die, Martha Stewart Greenery Punch and a metal snowflake from my stash.
A little over an hour and the last Tag for 2011 will be up on Tim's Blog ...makes me sad. I sure have been enjoying myself!

Day10-12 Tags of Christmas with Tim Holtz!

I had such a blast doing today's tag! I didn't get started on until this evening because we had errands to run, the whole time in town I kept thinking about the tag LOL  I'm obsessed!  I used one of Tim's Music sheet stamps for my background, along with some yummy Walnut Distress Ink, a holly stamp from Club Scrap and Ranger Clear Embossing powder.  I used Tim's Seasonal Stash papers for my Fragment images and loved doing the image transfer..fun, fun, fun!  I didn't have Facets so used Tim's Fragments instead. Cut the Tattered Banner from Tim's Seasonal Stash, added his Believe token, a piece of punched greenery and a rusty jingle bell. I sprayed the whole tag with Perfect Pearl Mist in Copper.

Day9-12 Tags of Christmas with Tim Holtz!

I have to admit, it makes me sad to think there are only 3 more tags to go for this year!  It's been so much fun trying new techniques, stretching my imagination and managing to get a tag finished each day. Last year I wasn't able to keep up LOL
Today's Tag is actually going to be a gift tag, it will go on my Best Friend's Christmas Gift...can't say what I'm giving her because she reads my blog now and then ;-)   I used a Holly border stamp that I got years ago when I was a Club Scrap Member, a "To-From" stamp that I bought at the dollar store, Tim's Limited Edition Christmas Distress Inks, Walnut DI, Tim's mini Bird die, Tim's Tattered Banner Die, Ranger Clear Embossing Powder and a piece of corrugated from my stash.
I really really wanted to make a Cardinal like Michelle did on Tim's blog, however I kept messing up and after three tries settled on a plain red bird.

Day8-12 Tags of Christmas with Tim Holtz!

Don't ya just love Tim's Steampunk Tag??????  I tell  ya, I was drooling on my keyboard!  The only item I have of his that is steampunk related is his mini gear die so I decided to start with it and see where it led me.  I recently got his Ornament Die #2 and wanted to incorporate it into the tag as well.  the Clock die cut I rc'vd in a swap. I made the holly embellishment with chipboard, utee, silver embossing powder and a Club Scrap Holly Stamp. The "Noel" word piece is leftover from my "foil" tag. It's not as steampunkish as Tim's but I believe it does have a little steampunk flavor

Day7-12 Tags of Christmas with Tim Holtz!

Tim's tag today is drop dead gorgeous! I do believe it is my favorite one so far.  Again I didn't have the supplies he used so I improvised LOL  I really thought I had a fair variety of his products...silly me! My wish list is getting longer and longer by the day :-)  For today's tag I really enjoyed using darker colors (darker are my favorite), it's a fairly simple tag but I do like it.  I crinkled my tag up and then inked it with Walnut Stain & Iced Spruce Distress Ink. I embossed the right edge with one of Tim's Christmas edge embossing folders then gently inked it with Festive Berries. I LOVE Tim's limited edition winter ink colors!  I cut some greenery with a punch, added some red bling to the stamped image, a metal snowflake to the greenery then added a rusty jingle bell to the twine at the top.

Day 6- 12 Tags of Christmas with Tim Holtz!

So this morning I raced to the laptop to see Tim's Tag and then let out a big groan. I don't have that Embossing Folder, or the Foil Sheets or the Paint Dabbers. What's a girl to do?  Improvise again LOL  I used aluminum foil from the kitchen (double layer of it) ran it through the Christmas Embossing folder, painted it with watered down acrylic paint and let it dry. Next I used my blending tool and Distress Inks to add color to the words, then covered it with Ranger's clear embossing powder and heat set it. I LOVE THIS TAG! I didn't do any sanding because the aluminum foil would have come apart, it's just not sturdy enough.

Day 5- 12 Tags of Christmas with Tim Holtz!

Well my tag is no where near as pretty as Tim's but I do like it. This was my first time doing anything with Alcohol Inks besides coloring pearls and it took 3 tries before I got it LOL  I also used a Santa from one of the papers in Tim's Seasonal Paper Stash, some punched greenery and some half pearls.

Day 4- 12 Tags of Christmas with Tim Holtz!

For today's tag I embossed heavy white cardstock with Tim's Snowman embossing folder then cut him out. I applied a heavy coat of Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint (my favorite!) and that booger took 4 hours to dry and crack LOL  I cut the 25 out of Grunge Paper, covered it with music note paper from Tim's Seasonal Paper Stash then covered it with Clear Rock Candy Distress Stickles.  I tried to do my tag background the way Tim did his but didn't have the exact same stamps and stains..I'm pleased with how it turned out though. I added a couple of clear snowflake buttons and tied it off with some silver and white ribbon and thread.

Day 3- 12 Tags of Christmas with Tim Holtz!

And again Sir Tim amazes us all! I drooled over his tag, read the blog and then sat here and thought hmmm I don't have that stamp, I don't have the cut and dry felt or foam, no re-inkers either. BUT, I do have that Christmas Embossing Folder! I embossed the upper portion of my tag, then cut another identical tag so I could emboss the lower portion. I then used my waterbrush and waterpainted each letter with my Distress Inks..I've decided I will get that stamp before trying one like this again...it was hard to paint each raised letter LOL  Next I went over the whole tag with the blender tool and Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink, the tag was too bright for my liking. Once this was done I sprayed the tag with Perfect Copper Perfect Pearls Mist..WOW! This was the first time I ever used PPMist and I love the stuff!  I added a band of twine where I had to adhere the bottom portion of the tag, added my greenery and holly berries then topped it off with Tim's Believe token and some red tulle.
Thank you for looking!

Day 2- 12 Tags of Christmas with Tim Holtz

Don't you just love Tim's day 2 Tag? So elegant looking! Because I used a Reindeer in my day 1 tag I decided to use a snowman on my day 2 Tag.  Again I didn't have all of the supplies Tim used so I improvised..it did my brain good to sit and figure out how to make my own "resist" paper and it worked out quite well I think.  For my snowman I used Tim's Snowman Texture Fade, simply cutting him out of the cardstock after embossing. I was very inspired by Tim's use of twine on the tree truck today and just HAD to do it!  I used rusty jingle bells for my embellishments along with twine, a homespun bow and a wee mulberry paper flower.
Here it is:

I finished my tag this evening while following Mario on facebook for his BTS thread, if you haven't checked it out, you might want to. It's a blast!

12 Tags of Christmas with Tim Holtz!

It's my favorite time of year again!  I just love Tim's day one tag, don't you?  I didn't have all of the dies and goodies he used on his but that's all part of the fun..seeing just how much improvising we can do. I just finished mine ten minutes ago.

Special Memory Board for my Mother

This past month has been so hard. I miss my Dad terribly and my heart aches so damn bad.  We are having a "Celebration of Life" gathering for Dad in a week and I wanted to give my Mother something special that day. The night Daddy passed away Mom told me how the photo of them on a sailboat was one of her most favorites, my printer is running out of ink so the photo didn't print up well but I'm heading to Walmart to get a good copy printed up.  I also made a photo collage consisting of photos of Mom and Dad over the years, it will nest inside the photo section behind the sailboat photo.
My very very dear friend Gloria sent me a pile of the Tattered Time papers which I used on this project.  I'm also making a Guestbook and Memory books for my Siblings and I with the rest of the TT papers.  I used Tim Holtz metal Corners, and Metal Bookplate. Inside the bookplate is the word "Cherish".  I made some Tim Holtz style roses using his Tattered Florals Die and cut some extra gears using his mini gears die.
The Club Scrap Clear Sticker phrase says "Life is measured not by minutes, but by Moments"

I wanted to use a Timepiece/Gear theme because my Dad and I are both crazy about old watches and watch parts. I wanted to add roses to represent Mom.  I'm tempted to make some smaller flowers in the brown tones but don't want this piece overpowered with elements...still debating.
Thank you Gloria for helping me create what was in my mind and heart!!

Feeling broken and lost

On July 6th my Father passed away after a brief 3 day stay in the hospital.  I feel so lost without his daily phone calls and our fun chats on Facebook together. I'm trying to find my mojo and get back into my crafting because it's been such great therapy over the years.

I love you Daddy and I miss you so much!

Steampunk ATB

I recently started seeing ATB's {Altered Trading Blocks} online and decided I wanted to give it a try myself.  I knew I wanted my first one to have a "steampunk" theme and had so much fun making this! It was fun combining my wood working tools with my paper crafting tools and I think I'm hooked!  I cut a 2x4 down into chunks, sanded and sanded all of the edges.  I adhered my Tim Holtz Papers using Claudine Helmuth Studio Multi-Medium and covered all of the edges with Tim Holtz Tissue Tape. I printed some Digital Steampunk Images on heavy cardstock and cut them out, and cut the Lady and Little Girl from a sheet of images I bought years ago.  I cut out my gears and Lock using Grungeboard and Tim's Dies, then inked them up to look like rusty metal. I cut the butterfly from a sheet of metal, painted it black and colored it up with Perfect Pearls Copper. The metal key is from my stash and the Word Token is from Tim Holtz line. The clock face is another image I printed up, then I coated it with Tim's Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint. The metal corner is from my stash.  The bottom of the block is only covered with paper so I didn't include it in the photo.

I'm entering this Steampunk ATB in the Simonsaysstampandshow  Metal Challenge.

Love me some T!m Time!

I started out wanting to make an altered canvas...however my brain tends to wander off on it's own little journey and I ended up creating an Album to hold my 3 beloved sheets of T!m Stamp Sets :-)  I took an 11x14 flat canvas and cut it in half with my bandsaw (power tools arrr arrr arrrrr..yup I love Tim the toolman Taylor too).  I adhered Papers from Tim's Crowded Attic Paper Stash to the Canvas covers, then had a good ole time inking, distress staining, stamping and embossing.  My fingertips and shirt are covered in many pretty shades of Aged Mahogany, Dusty Concord, Bundled Sage and Brushed Corduroy right now LOL    I embossed a Tag with Tim's Notepaper Texture Fade, then cut it out to resemble a Library Card and wrote the names of my 3 Stamp Sheets on it.  Then I cut a piece of Co-oridinate paper to make the pocket and embossed it with Tim's Gear Texture Trade folder.  The Clock face inside the front cover is from his Lost and Found Cardstock Sticker Stash, the gears in the middle of the clock face were cut with Tim's Mini Gear Movers and Shapers Die. I edged the front cover with Tim's Tissue Tape..ohhhh how I love his Tissue Tape!  I then used my Drill Press to drill the holes in the covers and added huge binder rings..let's face it, I do plan to own many more of Tim's Stamp Sets so I need to use huge binder rings...I dream BIG!   I really need to save up for a Binding Machine because the Drill Press is NOT the best tool for these books.

I'm entering this Altered Canvas Album into the Simon Says Stamp and Show "Show a Lord of Tim Holtz Technique" Challenge and to Linda's StudioL3 Grungy Monday Challenge.

Another Spring Tag

I made this Fairy Spring Tag using the Tim Holtz Tag Die, the Tim Holtz Brick Texture Fade, Crystal Stickles, Aqua Stickles, Copper and Blush Perfect Pearls Powders and Graphic45 Once Upon a Springtime Papers.
I cut the Fairy and Flowers from the paper, putting layers of flowers down and curling up the edges of the upper layer of flowers. Then I painted the flowers and the Fairy's wings with Perfect Pearls for that little extra umpf.

I won!!

So is everyone else on the edge of their seat waiting for all of Tim's new stuff to come out?  I can't wait to get my hands on as much of it as possible LOL   I was one of the lucky winners on Sue's Another Fabulous Day blog give-away in January. Yup yup, I won Tim's new Crowded Attic Paper Stash...woohooo! I have visions of Mini Books, ATC's , Tags and Cards made with it dancing in my head :-)

Speaking of Tim, did you see the fab mini book video on his blog today?  LOVE IT!
I sure do appreciate him putting an instructional video up because I've tried to figure out how to make those itty bitty books and never got it right.  Thanks Tim!

The Temps are slowly rising here in our part of the South, the snow and ice are melting and I can see some green winter grass in the yard...come on Spring!  My Ducks were tickled to be able to go to the pond this morning, I thought it would never thaw out!

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge 28! Colorful Layered Fragments!

Today's Compendium of Curiosities Challenge was just what I needed to get me in gear and do up this Box that I've wanted to do for months.  I call it my "Tim Time Treasure Box"  :-)  I started with a large white Document Box from Walmart, a bottle of Glossy Accents and these supplies......

I spent the whole day working on this and finished about 15 minutes ago, I can't think of a better way to spend the day!  I used the Fragments on the top of the box, I hope they're showing up ok in the photo.   Here is the top of the box:

I used one large square Fragment, 1 Large Circle Fragment and 1 small circle Fragment.  Notice Tim's name beside the clock face?  Tim Time *snicker*
Here is the front of the box:
